In the news this week, SCNers...Dear SCNer
I’ve been lucky to be able meet up with a lot of people this last few days, both in Holland and also here in Barcelona. It is strange to consider exactly what is different about a physical compared to a virtual meeting, at least on a one-to-one basis. We’ve got so used to video calls…and yes, a bit tired of them, that bringing them into our working lives in a meaningful and regular way will now happen. A quick, cheep and viable way to have a better conversation with people around the world
So why do we all crave physical meetings? That oxytocin rush with the shake of a hand and a hug to our friends. That chink of a glass which is absurd and a little sad over a screen. That little discussion of who is picking up the bill for dinner
Not only have I felt a much bigger sense of TRUST, there is also a feeling that greater UNDERSTANDING comes of a “real” conversation. I’d say that the element of trust, hard to develop on screen, gives way to that understanding.
 So, thanks once more for giveing some of your time to meet up in Holland, both in BreakBulk Rotterdam and also for dinner with SCN members later. A special thanks to Ashwin Didwania of New Globe India (for the cocktail invite) but also thanks to MBS (Germany and Holland), Merzario, Bati, Remiro, TPL, Rotra and Neo Air Charter.
Good to get the ideas flowing…and a little meat being consumed too!
