Dear Freight Forwarders…..“Digitalize or die”

Isn’t that what we’ve been hearing for the last 15 years? Are freight forwarders somehow immortal, deaf..or maybe the doom and gloom is not black after all.

Try asking a bookshop owner of 20 years ago, or a high street travel agent, and you’ll probably get a good perspective. It will probably give us all a good idea of how much we should be puffing our chests up as forwarders being “resilient and adusting to the market”

Just as the market throws us a few more curve-balls, with shipping lines and their VERY deep pockets start to look where else they will be expanding, its time to keep our eyes open. Next week I’m off to “the wrong side of the pond“, also known as the USA, for a conference of I.T. companies giving services to logistics. PSA Business Group has kindly invited me to attend their meeting in Las Vegas to discuss NETWORKING in LOGISTICS and I intend to give the technology companies some moments of reflexion.

If the success of so many forwarders is thanks to the trust developed with clients and an ability to solve their problems with knowledge of the array of solutions, how can we progress with better access to the solutions, but continuing to guide our clients with conversations that helps them

I also really hate bots, FAQ sections of webs, generically generated e-mails that repeat every 10 days….but I DO like, talking, meeting, debating…listening.

So, wish me luck in Las Vegas. The IT Crowd overwhelmingly outnumbers me as I look for possible solutions for you, the SCN members. There is much talk of INTEGRATION, so the question is what are the steps, what to integrate and how to improve efficiency while remaining, well, HUMAN.
