✈️ From Texas to Austria: A Challenging Aircraft Move with a Smooth Landing
We’re excited to share a remarkable project successfully handled in collaboration between SCN members in the USA and the Netherlands—a true example of global teamwork!
When The Flying Bulls in Salzburg, Austria, purchased an F8F Bearcat aircraft for $3.5 million USD, they trusted our SCN partners to manage the transatlantic move. The shipment—planned by our member in the U.S. and executed in close collaboration with Harold from QCS Netherlands—was full of unexpected turns.
📦 The journey began at Galveston Airport, where the team faced logistical challenges including customized trailer plates, airport gate modifications, and an urgent carrier change to Wallenius Wilhelmsen, rerouting the delivery to Zeebrugge, Belgium.
🚛 Upon arrival, Harold coordinated the final stretch—acquiring and modifying an aircraft pallet, organizing night-time delivery due to permit delays from the Belgium DOT, and even navigating road closures with a bit of creativity (and some stroopwafels 🍪).
Despite every curveball—mechanical issues, tight timelines, and bureaucratic surprises—the aircraft was safely delivered to Flanders Airport. The final reward? Seeing the Bearcat flying in formation with two other Flying Bulls upon arrival in Salzburg. ✈️🇦🇹
🤝 A huge congratulations to both teams involved—especially Harold—for turning a complex challenge into a smooth and successful operation. The client was thrilled, and conversations are already underway for future aircraft shipments.
