This is really a great news and an achievement by BRO and of course Indian Government! This is an 8.8 km long tunnel connecting Manali with Leh built at a cost of ₹ 3200 Cr. This Rohtang tunnel called “Atal tunnel” will be inaugurated by end of Sept 2020. Now the original distance (from Manali to Leh) of 474 km will come down to only 46 km… saving huge quantities of fuel and cutting long and tedious journey by about 7 hours.
Given the size of the project and the conditions (altitude, weather etc. ) it is no surprise that the whole project took 8 years to complete.
