How is Covid-19 affecting rates and routes at present?
What will the forwarder/airline relationship be after the pandemic?
When will cargo flows return to “normal” levels and what does the future hold?
What role with IT have in the future of air cargo following Covid-19?
These questions and many more were debated and discussed at our latest SCN Cybermeeting between member, partners and invited guests. In particular, SCN wants to solve the current problems of forwarders, not with complaints, but with greater understanding of what is creating the problems in the first place.
All SCN members are complaining of HIGH and UNSTABLE AIRFREIGHT RATES, in fact the whole industry is. Thanks to our invited airlines for attending and explaining some of the issues that they are currently experiencing with yield management or their “passenger-less” aircrafts, which gives rise to rate uncertainty.
- Fabrice Panza, manager global cool chain solutions at Etihad Cargo explained the coverage and roll out of Etihad’s essential cool chain programas at these important times.
- Antonio Dinis Queiros and Steffi Kueper from Lufthansa Cargo described the situation and challenges for their airline around the globe
- Carlos Arango and colleagues from Avianca Cargo brought us up to date on the airline’s situation in the Americas (in our english and Spanish cybermeetings)
Many thanks to all airlines for agreeing to join us, to explain and understand more of their client’s concerns.
To those who were not able to assist, it sounds like there will be a long wait before we can expect price stabalization and reductions. All, of course, dependant on Covid-19 and its immediate consequences for the travel industry.
